I have the best job in the world. I get to play with cool toys, hang out with fun people and sometimes, I get to make moms cry. Yup, I love my job!
I've been shooting since high school (quit the soccer team to get a job at Burger King and buy a camera...) and have a degree in Studio Arts with a photography concentration. I worked for IBM for a few years after college and then in the software industry another ten. By then, I had three kids and had picked up my camera again.
After moving from Massachusetts to Orlando then here to Mooresville, I decided to become a professional photographer. That was a great decision and I've never looked back. I can't imagine doing anything else!!
Over the past few years, my markets have become more concentrated. I used to shoot anything, now I'm getting picky. I've never shot weddings and don't plan to start. I've also decided to leave maternity & newborn photography to my friend, Candy, since she does it best. That leaves me with families, seniors, sports & commercial photography.
I'm especially good at shooting older kids - tweens & teens. At first I only shot them playing sports (LKNSports.com) but I started my senior business with the Class of 2011 and it's now my favorite. Two year olds are fun to shoot but they involve a lot of chasing. High school seniors typically aren't as unpredictable and most of them don't require snack breaks during a session!
In regards to making moms cry - that's my goal with my senior photography. So far, most of my moms have gotten teary-eyed after seeing their son or daughter's photos for the first time. Like I said, I have a great job!!
